Özet:
To keep up with the changing and developing world, individuals are expected to have
21st-century skills and integrate their knowledge with skills. This study aims to reveal
the compatibility of the writing instructions in the secondary school Turkish textbooks,
prepared for the 2023-2024 academic year with the writing field skills determined in
the K12 Skills Framework. In this study, a basic qualitative research method was used.
Data were obtained by the document analysis method. The data obtained by thematic
coding were classified as specified in the Framework. The ratio of the number of writing
instructions compatible with the K12 Skills Framework Turkish textbooks to the total
number of speaking instructions in the textbooks was determined. It is seen that the
writing instructions in the textbooks overlap most with the Integrated Skill of Creating
Content at all grade levels. The lowest overlap was found in Managing Writing and
Self-Reflection integrated skills. To provide students with 21st-century skills, changes
that can be made in the context of both the curriculum and the K12 Skills Framework
are presented as suggestions.
