Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore prospective primary teachers (PPTs) pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) regarding the subject of human and environment. This study was carried out with 30 PPTs enrolled in the department of primary education in 2008-2009 academic years. Researchers collected the data by reviewing lesson plans and interviews. The PCK related to the teaching lesson on the unit of human and environment was analysed through the use of prepared lesson plans and commentaries of interview results based on literature. The results showed that PPTs did not have appropriate PCK consisting of learning difficulties of the students, instructional strategies or activities and using materials (using technology or other materials) related to the subject of the unit of human and environment. Most of the PPTs had not sufficient knowledge of current curriculum involving human and environment. PCK researches should be simple and practical enough and help to provide guide for conceptual tools for lesson planning.
