Abstract:
In scientific literature, Weibull distribution and two component mixture Weibull distribution (WW) have been already applied in estimation of wind power potential. In this paper, two component mixture gamma distribution (GG) is proposed for estimation of wind power potential in heterogeneous wind data sets for the first time. Wind energy density for three weather stations located in western region of Turkey was investigated by using the Weibull, WW and GG probability density function in application section of study. The results obtained with these models were compared with the measured data. The GG distribution proposed for heterogeneous wind data sets was shown to be very successful in estimation of wind power potential according to the compare results.
