Abstract:
This study was done to determine the potential of almond production in Adiyaman region. According to research, in Adiyaman region, there is 182 ha of almond orchards produced by seeds. The total production is 443 tonnes. The total number of bearing trees is 49,350 and the number of non-bearing trees is 34,534. The total number of almond trees is 83,884. Almond production is achieved using traditional methods in Adiyaman region. Almond trees are cultivated in all towns but generally in the centre of the city. Specially Besni, Tut, Kahta, Golbasi, Samsat towns dominate according to production. Generally, almond orchards exist as border trees or naturally untidy groups of trees. Recently however, orchards were established in Besni (1000 ha) and Kahta (400 ha) towns. The largest part of these orchards is one year old. All these orchards can be irrigated and the irrigation systems have been built. Newly planted trees are on rootstock and varieties include Ferragnes, Ferraduel, Cristomorto, Texas, and Nonpareil. In this study, it is noticed that there is endless land in Adiyaman for almond production like in America's State of California.
