Nergisi, regarded as the most important representative of poetic prose in our classical literature, collected ten different love stories in his work, Mesakku'l-Ussak. Most of these stories, which are inspired by real life experiences, reflect the social environment and the historical period of the author. This work, therefore, realistically conveys various aspects of 17(th) Century Ottoman social life through the powerful observations of the author.
This study points to and analyzes various elements of the social life of the period as reflected in the stories in Mesakku'l-Ussak. |
